Hawks Soar in 5th Set, Take Down Sac City on the Road

Sacramento, CA – The Hawks (9-10) traveled up the road to take on a familiar foe in Sacramento City College (7-13). In a tight 5 set match, the Hawks traded blows with the Panthers, before ending strong in the deciding 5th set. After going into the deciding set with four close sets, the Hawks soared with a 5 point lead to start the set. The Hawks ended the set with a 15-5 set victory, resulting in the 10th victory for CRC.

Cosumnes River College out hit the Panthers with 49 kills to 44 by the hosting team. Miah Williamson came into the match focused and dominated the Panther defense. By the end of the match, Williamson totaled 20 kills on 26 attempts, a .731 kill percentage. Deziree McKee, another Middle Blocker for CRC, totaled 13 kills on 30 attempts, a .300 kill percentage. Both middles were able to dominate the net, and keep the defense for Sacramento City on their heels. Giovanna Parino picked up another double-double by assisting on 46 of the 49 kills by the Hawk offense. CRC added tough serving to their recipe for success, totaling 10 service aces. Abigail Hicks lead the service barrage with 5 aces, followed by freshman teammate Isabella Bugarin's 3 aces.

Defense continued to be a strength for the Hawks as they totaled 85 digs to the 55 of the hosting Panthers. Five Hawk defenders ended up with double digit totals in the defensive category. Abigail Hicks set the tone for the backline as she has all season long with 25 digs. Anna Thomas set a season high with 15 digs during the match. Giovanna Parino's 13 digs went along with her assists to total her 6th double-double of the season. Ainsley Beckman and Isabella Bugarin each picked up 11 digs apiece, adding to the defensive total for CRC. The frontline for the Hawks continued to play strong at the net by picking up 4 solo blocks, and combing for 14 assisted blocks. Miah Williamson had her best statistical blocking game with 2 solo blocks and 5 assisted blocks. Kaley Dosier, a freshman from Linden High School, picked up 1 solo block and 3 assisted blocks. Giovanna Parino, Deziree McKee and Avery Jimenez each added 2 assisted blocks to the CRC totals.

Up Next – The Hawks (10-10) return home in a rematch against Santa Rosa Junior College (12-6). Earlier in the season, the Hawks lost 1-3 to the Bear Cubs. Now with the game shifting to the home venue, CRC looks to pick up their 3rd straight victory by getting revenge on the visiting Bear Cubs. Game time is scheduled for 6:30pm in the CAC building.
