The 2024 season is Don Mico’s 7th season leading the Hawks as Head Coach, and 13th season overall with the program.

During the 2023 season, Coach Mico led the Hawks to a 23-22 season and a berth in the CCCAA playoffs advancing to the Super Regionals.

Don Mico was born and raised in Sacramento, right down the street from Cosumnes River College. He moved to Reno with his mother and attended Earl Wooster High School. After high school, he played a year at Merced College before moving back to Sacramento and playing at Sacramento City College. He finished his education at Sacramento State and received his B.S. in Kinesiology and a Masters Degree in Kinesiology.

Coach Mico’s coaching career began as a JV assistant at Earl Wooster High in 1992. In 1994, he became a Volunteer Assistant at Sac City under the tutelage of Jerry Weinstein and Paul Camazzi. During his time at Sac City, their baseball team won back-to-back State Championships in 1998 and 1999. He coached numerous players that received D1, D2, and NAIA scholarships, and professional contracts. Notable players included: Mike Neu (current California Bears Head Coach), Matt Riley of the Baltimore Orioles, and Joe Thurston of the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2003, he left college baseball to open his own business and trained players including Tim Wheeler and Casey Weathers of the Colorado Rockies and JD Davis, currently with the New York Mets. In the Fall of 2011, Coach Tony Bloomfield hired Coach Mico as a Volunteer Assistant. That spring the Hawks went on to win the 2012 State Championship. Coach Mico assisted with every aspect of the team with Coach Bloomfield until Coach Bloomfield’s retirement after the 2017 season.

When named Head Coach before the 2018 season, Coach Mico said, “I have been truly blessed to have been given this opportunity to be mentored by Coach Bloomfield over the last six years. He has taught me more than just the coaching side, but how to be a Father to my two sons. Words can not express how him and his family have helped me be a better dad. Thank you, Coach Bloomfield.

Coach Mico’s two sons are DJ and JD (Shorty). DJ, is attending McGeorge Law School. Shorty is a former Hawk infielder and currently playing at UC Davis.
