Tony Bloomfield enters his 26th season as a California Community College head coach. He is one of the most respected and successful coaches at the California Junior College level, compiling an overall record of 621-355. His teams have made 22 playoff appearances, and won 10 conference championships.
Coach Bloomfield is entering his 18th season at Cosumnes River College, one of the most successful baseball programs in Northern California. Under his leadership the Hawks have a record of 435-291-2, they've won 4 Conference Championships (2003, 2005, and 2006), and compete yearly for the title in Northern California’s toughest league – The Big 8.
Equally impressive is the success of Coach Bloomfield’s athletes in the academic arena. CRC baseball players go on to further their education consistently. 59 have earned Academic All-Conference recognition.
2009 marked an exciting year for Coach Bloomfield, his staff and Cosumnes River baseball, as David Hernandez became the first Hawk under this tenure to play in the Major Leagues. David was a starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles during the 2009 season and is now with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The 2012 season was a historical one for Coach Bloomfield and his team, as they played without a home practice field and without a home game field yet they still made it to the State Championships and won! His team made history for CRC as well, being the first athletic team to bring home a State Championship in any sport ever offered here at CRC. Bloomfield and his team also brought home the Big 8 Title alongside their State Championship win.
As of May 8th 2015, after a win against Feather River college, Tony Bloomfield has won 700 Junior College games in his coaching career, giving him a record of 700-404-2.
Tony Bloomfield started his coaching career at LA Harbor College as an assistant coach under the guidance of Hall of Fame Coach Jim O’Brien. Following their 1990 State Championship, Tony took over and won 4 consecutive conference championships. Coach Bloomfield has earned 9 Conference Coach of the Year honors, and in 1997 was the Male Coach of the Year in Southern California Athletic Conference. In his 8 years at LA Harbor, Tony's teams had a record of 265-113.
In his career, Coach Bloomfield has coached an impressive 106 All-Conference players, 19 All-Northern California players, 31 All-Americans, and 15 players who have played in the Division 1 College World Series. 36 players have been drafted, including 6 in the 1st 8 rounds.
Tony Bloomfield played college baseball at LA Harbor College and the University of Nevada-Reno. He earned his Master’s Degree from Azusa Pacific in 1992.
A teacher of the game, Coach Bloomfield emphasizes academic success, responsibility, citizenship, and personal growth as the cornerstone of this coaching philosophy. He teaches that success away from the field is just as important as success on the field.
Coach Bloomfield is married to Lori, and has 2 children. His daughter, Brittany, is a junior at University of San Diego, and his son, Brett, is a shortstop for the Cosumnes River Hawks. Tony and his family live in Davis.
