Hawks Look to Continue Momentum into Week Three

The Cosumnes River College (CRC) Hawks head into their third week of the season with a 4-4 record.  This week, the Hawks have four games.  Two will be played on Thursday, February 13th against the College of San Mateo Bulldogs (8-1) at 10:00 am and the Fresno City College Rams (2-3) at 12:00 pm.  Both games will take place at San Mateo.  On Friday, the Hawks will be back at home taking on the 0-2 Lassen Community College Cougars in a double header with games at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.

Head Coach Christy Schroeder, when asked about the upcoming games said, "these games will be tough ones but good ones."  She followed by confidently saying, "Our team has been hitting the ball and our pitching staff has held up well, so if we continue to do that and everyone keeps getting involved, we will have a good week."

The Hawks are led by freshman Leandra Coronado (Elk Grove, CA/Monterey Trail) and sophomore, Sydney Giovannoni (Stockton, CA/Tokay HS) to continue hitting the ball well for their team.  Coronado currently leads the team with a .478 batting average and has contributed to five RBI.  Giovannoni has hit the team's sole homerun on the season as well as provided six RBI and a .409 batting average.  CRC has been utilizing their dynamic bullpen by putting many different women on the mound throughout games.  Freshman, Audrey Bookings (Galt, CA/Liberty Ranch HS), has made seven appearances on the mound and is leading her team with 11 strikeouts.  She will be a big factor in these upcoming matchups.

The CRC Hawks are hoping to carry momentum from their previous two wins into a challenging matchup against the San Mateo Bulldogs who are on a six-game win streak and are also undefeated at home.  The Bulldogs have been rallying behind freshman infielder, Shea Moreno's .636 batting average, nine RBIs, three home runs, and 14 stolen bases.  The Bulldogs have also received help from sophomore catcher, Riley Donovan who is batting .579 with three home runs and 6 RBIs.  The Bulldogs have also been playing well defensively tallying 5 shutouts and an earned run average of only 1.75 runs per game.

In the second game of the doubleheader, The Hawks take on the Fresno City Rams.  The Rams have had a shaky start to the season, tallying only a .275 team batting average and committing seven total fielding errors.  Freshman, Macy Mets, leads the Rams with a .714 batting average and 4 runs scored while sophomore shortstop, Teya Vincent who is contributing a .571 average and 4 RBI.

The Hawks return to their home field for a Valentine's Day matchup against the 0-2 Lassen Cougars.  The Cougars' two losses came against Folsom Lake College where they lost 10-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the second.
