Hawks Hope to Keep Win Streak Alive as They Continue Six Game Homestand

The Cosumnes River College (CRC) softball team is heading into their fourth week of the season riding a three-game winning streak. CRC will have the back end of a six-game home stand this week as they play four home games. They will start the week with a doubleheader on Thursday, February 20th against Ohlone College (5-5) at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm. On Saturday, February 22nd, CRC will begin conference play as they host San Joaquin Delta College (7-3) at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm.

The Hawks have had a lot of offensive contribution from their whole lineup this season, but have been led by a trio of freshmen. Mckinzie Spriggs (Galt, CA / Galt HS) currently leads the team in extra base hits and is batting .378 with one home run and nine RBI. Leandra Coronado (Elk Grove, CA / Monterey Trail HS) is the team's leading hitter, batting .400 with six runs batted in. Finally, Danielle Pfennig (Lodi, CA / Lodi HS) is leading the team in RBI, as she has batted .353 with a home run and 12 RBI to this point. CRC has gotten most of its production in the circle from two pitchers this season, sophomore Becky Pedersen (Ukiah, CA / Ukiah HS) and freshman Audrey Brookins (Galt, CA/ Liberty Ranch HS). Pedersen is 2-1 with 11 K's and a 3.76 ERA in 31 and ⅔ innings pitched, and Brookins is 0-1 with 11 K's and a 4.26 ERA in 23 innings pitched.

Ohlone College
CRC begins the week against Ohlone who is currently 5-5 and coming off of two close losses. Ohlone's offense has been led by Kaelani Ratliff, who is batting .548 with 13 RBI and Michael Gonzales, who is hitting .400 with five RBI. Ohlone has been led in the circle by Alexis Palmon and Holly Gonzales. Palmon is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 17 strikeouts and Gonzales is 1-0 with a 2.66 ERA and six strikeouts.

Coach Schroeder on Ohlone:
"They've been good in the past, they're going to have a good squad, and we can't take them lightly. We just need to go out and play our game because when we do we are capable of beating anybody."

San Joaquin Delta College
On Saturday, CRC opens conference play against Delta who is currently 7-3. Delta is coming off of a split against Butte College last Monday. The Hawks swept Butte in a doubleheader earlier this season. Delta's offense has been led by Mikaela Ferreira and Cheyenne Washington. Ferreira is batting .417 with a homer and five RBI and Washington is batting .391 with a home run and seven RBI.

Coach Schroeder on Delta
"They are always a top team, but it's conference play and anything can happen. It's always a good series any time we match up. This year it looks like everyone in the conference is right in the same area. Whoever does the little things right will win, so we just have to play as consistent as possible."
