Cassie Baxter will be joining our CRC sports family this next Fall 2014. She comes from Sierra College where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Wolverine’s Women's Volleyball team. Coach Baxter is a part time Physical Education teacher at Riverbank K-8th School in West Sacramento.
The 2013 Cosumnes River volleyball team wraps up their season tonight on sophomore night, when they close out the season against the Pirates of Modesto Junior College. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM, with proceedings to honor the team’s sophomores beforehand.
The Cosumnes River volleyball team has a plan for the second half of Big 8 play, and it deals with reinventing themselves in order to finish out the year on a high note. The “theme” involves changing the team’s gameplan at all levels, from the coaches, to the players.

The nonconference portion of the Cosumnes River volleyball team's schedule has seen the Hawks experience their share of ups and downs early in the 2013 campaign. CRC has managed a .500 mark thus far, and looks to improve upon that when they close out their nonconference schedule this evening on the road, against College of Marin.

Assistant coach Natalie Wells stressed the importance of preparing her team mentally, as well as physically, for the matches today in the CRC mini-tournament. It certainly played dividends this afternoon, as CRC split a pair of matches, going 1-1 in the event.

The Hawks, off to a strong 3-3 start following two tournament appearances, will look to improve upon their mark as they continue their homestand this afternoon.
The Cosumnes River volleyball team suffered their second straight loss this afternoon, as CRC fell to the Lassen Cougars 3-0. The Hawks struggled mightily in this match, as Lassen jumped on Cosumnes River early, and never let off as the Cougars managed to snap their five match skid.
Cosumnes River volleyball head coach Minet Gunther each season is faced with the difficult task of preparing her team for the rigors of play in the Big 8 conference. The Big 8, the premier volleyball CCCAA conference in northern California, features one of the most difficult conference schedules in the state.
Early season competition can prove difficult for team’s that rely heavily on scouting an opponent. There’s a very small sample size, and as team’s only have a handful of contests under their belt, preparation for specific teams can prove to be a daunting task. This doesn’t worry CRC volleyball assistant coach Natalie Wells, as she prepares her team to take on Columbia College on the road this evening.
